Could Peptides Help Improve Your Libido?

Posted by Dr. Kris Wusterhausen on April 23, 2020

Low sex drive is a frustrating problem that can affect many aspects of your life, for both men and women. But there is hope.

Every day, amazing new discoveries are made in the world of health and wellness, leading to additional options for treatment beyond the traditional pharmaceutical industry. One such treatment that has emerged on the cutting-edge is peptides.

By the time February rolls around, a majority of people don’t feel like they’re any closer to achieving their New Year’s Resolution to lose weight/build muscle. But don’t throw in the towel just yet! As a personal trainer with The Resurge Clinic, I’ve helped dozens of people just like you get into shape just in time for summer beach parties.

All you have to do is follow these four simple tips.

What Are Peptides?

Peptides are specific sequences of amino acids used as treatments for a variety of issues. They communicate with different parts of your body by binding to cell receptors and signaling messages for optimal body function, much like hormones.

Each type of peptide is unique and delivers unique benefits. One peptide, Melanotan II, helps treat decreased libido. While originally tested for its use as a sunless tanning agent, melatonan also demonstrated the ability to increase female sexual desire and stimulate male erections.

It is now being prescribed as an option for women with sexual arousal disorder and men with ED (erectile dysfunction).

Peptides Vs Prescription Drugs: What’s The Difference?

The majority of prescription drugs like Viagra that treat sexual dysfunction stimulate a physical reaction through the cardiovascular system. They increase blood flow to generate an erection.

But the peptide Melanotan II increases the libido through the brain, not the cardiovascular system. This results in an increased desire to have sex in women and stronger erections in men.

Aside from its aphrodisiac properties, Melanotan has the added benefit of a longer-lasting tan. Its original purpose was to stimulate melanogenesis—the production and secretion of melanin. This increases your body’s protection against UV rays while darkening your skin pigment. Scientists also noted a mild positive fat-mobilizing effect.

What You Can Expect

Melanotan II is administered via an injection just under the skin of the thigh or abdomen. This injection would occur daily for one to two weeks and then weekly for maintenance. Your dosage is based on your gender and weight.

But the big question with any treatment is: what are the side effects?

The great thing about peptides is that they have few if any side effects, especially when compared with drug prescription medications. For Melanotan II, the most common side effects were nausea and headaches.

Many times, if you do experience any side effects, they will get better after a few weeks of treatments.
